What it means to have a Family Business

We sat down with Camille, founder of Nouvel Heritage, to talk about what it means to build a fine jewelry Maison as a family business, and why that shapes everything from the way the Maison works to the pieces it creates. Here's  what she said:

A business built together

Nouvel Heritage is a family business. My mother started the group a little over 20 years ago, and my father and my sister joined along the way. That is the foundation everything else is built on. The decisions we make, the partners we choose, the way we show up for the people around us: all of it comes back to that.

A language we share with our partners

What I love most about working as a family in this industry is how much it resonates with the people we work with. Jewelers have historically been family businesses themselves. Many of our closest partners across the US and in France are family-owned, and that creates an immediate connection. There is a shared understanding of what it means to build something over time, to make sure every relationship is treated with care. Working as a family tends to extend outward. To the people who work with us, to our retailers, to our suppliers. It shapes a way of doing business built around intimacy. Making sure that everyone is moving in the same direction, and that what we build together means something beyond the transaction.

What it means for the people who wear our pieces

For our customers, the connection runs deep as well. Jewelry holds a unique place in a family's history. It is the piece inherited from a grandparent, passed down from a parent, kept and eventually given again. Our customers are often looking for something that belongs not only to their everyday life but to their family's story.

As a family business, we understand that intimacy. We understand why someone is looking for a piece that is truly unique, worth wearing every day, and worth passing on later. That is not something we add to the way we work. It is where we start.
